Why does every new generation of Pokémon start out with so many missing features?

I've played Pokémon Moon for about a week now, and I've managed to complete the game.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. The 3DS version changed some things around from the N64 original. Some were good changes, but some were bad,

NetHack becomes bland if you're too good at it.

NetHack is a challenging and intricate game! But to me, it loses its lustre about halfway through a game of it.
